Important things to know when painting

  • Always follow the instructions on the product label for best results.
  • Preparation and correct product application are important.
  • There are no short-cuts.
  • Always follow the correct drying time recommendations.
  • Keep the room well ventilated when using an oil-based/solvent based paint.
  • Do not paint exterior surfaces when rain is expected within 4 hours after paint application.
  • Do not paint if surface temperatures are below 10 or above 30°C
  • Do not paint exterior surfaces in windy conditions.

New Surfaces

Interior smooth Plastered Walls

1.   Make sure walls are dry  and free of contamination. (if in doubt, get NEO Paints representative to do moisture testing)

2.   Apply one coat “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” to whole surface and let dry for 4 hours.

3.   Fill surface imperfections with “NEO Aurora Filler”, let dry and sand to smooth.

4.   Dust properly.

5.   Spot prime filled areas with one generous coat of “NEO Bonding Liquid” and let dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting).

6.   Apply two coats “NEO Dur PVA (SABS – SANS 1586 grade 1)” (allow to dry 4 hours between coats) or “NEO Eggshell Enamel” (allow to dry for 24 hours between coats).

7.   Primer, Bonding Liquid & NEO Dur PVA. Cleaning Solvent use water

8.   Apply by brush or Sheepskin Roller

9.   NEO Eggshell Enamel (not recommended in moist conditions as soaponification could occur)

10. Cleaning Solvent use NEO Mineral Turpentine

11. Apply by brush or Mohair Roller

1. Prepare and apply one coat “Neo Acrylic Wall Primer” or other approved acrylic plaster primer, stop with “Neo Repair Paste” or other approved product and apply two coats “Neo Aurora PVA (SABS grade 3)” or other approved paint on.

2. Apply one coat “NEO Bonding Liquid” over whole area and allow to dry for 4 hours (not exceeding 48 hours).

3. Apply one coat “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” to whole surface and let dry for 4 hours.

4. Fill surface imperfections with “NEO Repair Paste” (larger imperfections / cracks fill in maximum 2mm thick layers and allow each layer to dry for 2 hours – repeat until cavity is filled completely), work off last layer to match surrounding wall texture with moist brush and allow to dry for 2 hours.

5. Spot prime filled areas with one generous coat of “NEO Bonding Liquid” and let dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting).

6. Apply two coats “NEO Marble PLaster” allowing 4 hours drying time between coats.

7. Cleaning Solvent: Water Apply by brush (Spatkwas), Sheepskin Roller or yellow sponge texture roller – NEO Reibeputz by trowel (specialist application).

Ceilings

1. Spot prime nail heads with “NEO Universal Undercoat and allow to dry for 6 hours.

2. Apply one coat “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” to whole surface and let dry for 4 hours.

3. Fill surface imperfections with “NEO Repair Paste” (larger imperfections / cracks fill in maximum 2mm thick layers and allow each layer to dry for 2 hours – repeat until cavity is filled completely), work off last layer to match surrounding ceiling texture with moist brush or moist spatula and allow to dry for 2 hours.

4. Spot prime filled areas with one generous coat of “NEO Bonding Liquid” and let dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting). Apply two coats “NEO Contractors Premium PVA White” allowing 4 hours drying time between coats. Cleaning Solvent: Water Apply by brush or Sheepskin Roller For coloured ceilings revert to “NEO Aurora PVA”.

1. Spot prime filled areas with one generous coat of “NEO Bonding Liquid” and let dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting).

2. Apply two coats “NEO Contractors Premium PVA White” allowing 4 hours drying time between coats.

3. Cleaning Solvent: Water

4. Apply by brush or Sheepskin Roller For coloured ceilings revert to “NEO Aurora PVA”.

5. Spot prime nail heads with “NEO Universal Undercoat and allow to dry for 6 hours.

6. Apply one coat “NEO Bonding Liquid” over whole area and allow to dry for 4 hours (not exceeding 48 hours).

7. Apply one coat “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” to whole surface and let dry for 4 hours.

8. Fill surface imperfections with “NEO Repair Paste” (larger imperfections / cracks fill in maximum 2mm thick layers and allow each layer to dry for 2 hours – repeat until cavity is filled completely), work off last layer to match surrounding wall texture with moist brush and allow to dry for 2 hours.

10. Apply two coats “NEO Marble Plaster” allowing 4 hours drying time between coats.

11. Cleaning Solvent: Water

12. Apply by brush (Spatkwas), Sheepskin Roller or yellow sponge texture roller.  

Renovations

Interior Smooth Plastered Walls

  1. Apply “NEO Metal Conditioner” to metal by brushing well with stiff nylon brush.
  2. Allow to react for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse with clean water by brushing down with stiff nylon brush.
  3. Sand out any red rust back to clean metal. Within 1 hour after cleaning prime with one coat “NEO Corrotec Primer” and let dry for 2 hours.
  4. Apply one coat “NEO Universal Undercoat” and let dry for 6 hours.
  5. Apply two coats “NEO Dur High Gloss Enamel (SABS – SANS 630 type 2)” and allow to dry 24 hours between coats.
  6. Primer: Apply by brush or spray only
  7. Cleaning Solvent for Corrotec Primer use NEO M-Thinner
  8. Undercoat & High Gloss Enamel: Apply with brush, Mohair / Sponge Roller or spray
  9. 1. Make sure walls are dry (if in doubt, get NEO Paints to do moisture testing) and free of contamination.
  10. 2. Remove all blistering and flaking paint. If moisture ingress is the cause of paint blistering/flaking, make sure wall is dry and apply 2 coats (wet in wet) “NEO Salt Stop” to bare exposed plaster and let dry for 24 hours.
  11. 3. Spot prime with one coat “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” and let dry for 4 hours.
  12. 4. Fill surface imperfections with “NEO Aurora Filler”, let dry and sand to smooth.
  13. 5. Dust properly. Spot prime filled areas with one generous coat of “NEO Bonding Liquid” and let dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting).
  14. 6. Apply two coats “NEO Dur PVA (SABS – SANS 1586 grade 1)” (allow to dry 4 hours between coats) or “NEO Eggshell Enamel” (allow to dry for 24 hours between coats). NB: If previously painted Eggshell Enamel and changing over to PVA, sand existing Eggshell to mat and apply one coat “NEO Universal Undercoat” over whole surface and let dry for 6 hours before painting with “NEO Dur PVA (SABS – SANS 1586 grade 1)”.

4. Spot prime with “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” and let dry for 4 hours.

5. Fill surface imperfections with “NEO Repair Paste” (larger imperfections / cracks fill in maximum 2mm thick layers and allow each layer to dry for 2 hours – repeat until cavity is filled completely), work off last layer to match surrounding wall texture with moist brush and allow to dry for 2 hours.

3. Spot prime with one coat “NEO Contractors Premium Primer” and one coat of “NEO Marble Plaster” allowing 4 hours drying time between coats.
